Issue of Special Stamp Sheetlet - Tourism Series No.1: Nightlife for HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo

To commemorate HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo, a series of 6 stamp sheetlets with each depicting a different facet of the Expo theme - "Tourism" will be issued as a run-up to and during the Expo period. The stamp sheetlets series include Nightlife, Green Hong Kong, Gourmet Kitchen, Chinese New Year Parade, Shopping Fun and City of Life. The first stamp sheetlet depicting "Nightlife" will be issued on 8 April 2003 at HK$10 each.

The Tourism Series No.1 - "Nightlife" sheetlet has several special features. While the varied illustrations highlight and enrich the theme, the sheetlet also incorporates a new $10 stamp which forms part of the sheetlet design. Furthermore, the illustration at the top left hand corner is an innovative way to provide a preview of the next new stamp in this series.

Remarks : The above philatelic products have been included in the 2003 Local Standing Order Service.

As from 18 March 2003, the stamp sheetlet and presentation pack will be displayed for advance information of the public at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office and Sha Tin Central Post Office. Official first day cover at HK$1 each will be put on sale at all post offices on the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided covers will be accepted at all post offices from 18 to 25 March 2003.

All post offices will open as per normal working hours on 8 April 2003 to provide a full range of counter services. Hand-back service will be provided at the post offices on 8 April 2003 to official and privately-made covers bearing the first day of issue indication and a local address. A special postmark and cachet will also be introduced to commemorate the event. Application of the cachet will be available at the all philatelic offices on 8 April 2003. The "GPO-1" datestamp, "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial postmark and the philatelic office pictorial postmarks will also be available for hand-back service at all philatelic offices on that day.

The public hall of the Hongkong Post Philatelic Bureau on 1/F., Trade Square, 681 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon, will also open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for datestamping covers with the "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial postmark, the "GPO-1" postmark as well as the special postmark and cachet.
