HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo
The HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo will be held from 30 January to
3 February 2004 at Hall 1 of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition
Centre. The theme of the Expo is "Tourism".
This Expo has the patronage of the Federation of Inter-Asian Philately
(F.I.A.P.) as the 17th Asian International Stamp Exhibition. It
is organised by Hongkong Post in joint collaboration with the Hong
Kong Philatelic Society, China Philatelic Association and Tsim Sha
Tsui Philatelic Club.
HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo aims to sustain the philatelic interest
and to cultivate the pastime of stamp collection. With the support
and participation of postal administrations and stamp and coin dealers,
the Expo will provide an opportunity for visitors to communicate
and broaden their knowledge on stamp and coin products as well as
to serve as an effective platform to promote philatelic and coin
collection.
Admission to the Expo is free of charge and the opening hours are:

1. Trading Booths and Exhibition Entries
There will be over 100 booths operated by postal administrations,
philatelic agents, security printers, stamp and coin dealers, philatelic
publishers and stationery suppliers. Some security printers will
show the various features of stamp printing and security measures.
Moreover, there will be about 1,000 frames of exhibits competing
for the various grand prix awards. As for the Court of Honour, the
China National Postage Stamp Museum has kindly agreed to provide
some of its valuable collections for display. Besides, there will
also be exhibits from the Hong Kong Museum of History, the China
National Philatelic Corporation and other leading philatelists.
2. Expo Catalogue and Picture Book
In order to provide advance information to the visitors, two publications
will be put on sale starting from 27 January 2004 (Tuesday)
at the 39 philatelic offices and at the Expo venue during the Expo
period. They are,
2.1 HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo Catalogue
A guide to the Expo with detailed information on lists of booth
holders, competitive exhibits, Court of Honour items, and descriptions
on philatelic products, souvenir items, daily events and the floor
plan. Blank pages are reserved for obtaining stamp designers'
autographs, affixing stamps and to collect cachet. The selling
price is HK$20 each.
2.2 HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo "Tourism" Picture
Book
This publication is a special collector's item and a memento
for the HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo. It contains beautiful photos
highlighting the attractions under the Expo theme of tourism and
the different facet of Hong Kong's myriad tourist attractions
as depicted in the Tourism Series No. 1-6. A set of eight blank
stamp mounts are enclosed for customers to insert stamp sheetlets
issued for the Expo, that is, Tourism Series No. 1-6, Flip-flop
Stamp Sheetlet and the Hong Kong Attractions stamp sheetlet. The
selling price is HK$30 each.
3. Products available for sale at the Expo Venue only
3.1 Souvenir Products
A series of souvenir items will be available for sale at the
Expo venue only. There is no restriction on the quantity
to be purchased while stock lasts.

3.2 "My Stamp" with photo-taking
A stamp sheetlet can be personalised by adding a photographic
portrait onto the tabs of the stamps. Instant photo-taking will
only be available at the Expo venue. The stamp sheetlet contains
four stamps in HK$10 denomination, with two stamps each featuring
Nightlife and Green Hong Kong themes, and two blank spaces reserved
for the incorporation of photo images. The selling price of each
stamp sheetlet is HK$80.
Forms for Advance Order of My Stamp are now available and accepted
at the 39 philatelic offices. Self-provided photos should be submitted
together with the order forms and the closing date for submission
is 3 February 2004. The order forms will also be available
at the Expo venue from 30 January to 3 February 2004.
4. Other Philatelic Products available for sale at the Expo
Venue and Post Offices
To commemorate the Expo, a series of stamp products will be issued
and put on sale at the Expo venue and post offices. (Items 4.4 -
4.7 will only be sold at the Expo venue and the 39 philatelic offices
as from 30 January 2004, whereas items 4.1 - 4.3 will also
be on sale at the Expo venue and at all post offices on their issuing
dates.)
4.1 HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo Tourism Series No. 3 to 6
Tourism Series No. 3 to 6 are issued consecutively starting from
the first day of the Expo. Each stamp sheetlet is embedded with
a HK$10 stamp. These sheetlets are designed by Mr. Jason CHUM
and printed in lithography by Joh. Enschede Stamps Security Printers,
the Netherlands. The selling price is HK$10 each.
4.2 Flip-flop Stamp Sheetlet to Commemorate the Opening of
the HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo
To mark the opening of the HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo, Hongkong
Post sends greetings of good fortune to all its customers through
the issue of a special flip-flop stamp sheetlet featuring the
Chinese New Year pudding and a New Year scroll. The two featured
stamps are adopted from the Tourism Series No. 3: Gourmet Kitchen
stamp. Customers will be able to see two different propitious
wishes on the New Year scroll of the stamp sheetlet, depending
on the angle of viewing. The stamp sheetlet is designed by Mr.
Jason CHUM and printed with lithography by Cartor Security Printing,
France. The selling price is HK$20 each.
4.3 Hong Kong Attractions Stamp Sheetlet
To further highlight the Tourism theme, a stamp sheetlet reproducing
all the 21 stamps of the 1999 Hong Kong Definitive series is issued.
Printed with a purple/violet optical variable ink, the stamps
when viewed from different angles show two different colours.
The stamps are all of the same size and denomination, i.e HK$1.4.
This sheetlet is designed by Mr. Colin TILLYER and printed in
photogravure by Walsall Security Printers Ltd., United Kingdom.
The selling price is HK$29.4 each.
4.4 2003-2004 Philatelic Ambassador Miss Kelly CHEN Single
CD and Stamp Pack
This Pack contains a compact disc with a song "Stamp"
especially sung by Philatelic Ambassador Miss Kelly Chen for the
HONG KONG 2004 Stamp Expo. It also contains a serviced souvenir
cover pre-affixed with a personalised "My Stamp" of
Miss Chen. Apart from two stamps of the Tourism Series No. 1:
Nightlife, it also includes one photo of Miss Chen and a caricature
of cutie Kelly. The selling price is HK$50 each.
4.5 "Living Earth 3" Folder Pack
This is a joint Folder Pack by Hongkong Post and four postal
administrations, viz, Canada, Ireland, Sweden and United Nations,
containing stamps on nature issued by these postal administrations.
The selling price is HK$80 each.
4.6 Commemorative Collection of "HONG KONG 2004"
Stamp Sheetlet and Banknote
This is issued to commemorate the participating of coin and banknote
dealers for the first time in an international philatelic event
in Hong Kong. It contains a stamp sheetlet of the Tourism Series
No. 3: Gourmet Kitchen and a HK$10 banknote issued by the Government
of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Both the stamp
sheetlet and the HK$10 banknote have the same prefix and serial
number. The selling price is HK$50 each.
4.7 Prestige Collection of "HONG KONG 2004" Stamp
Sheetlets and Banknotes
This Prestige Pack contains Tourism Series No. 1 and No. 6 stamp
sheetlets and six HK$10 banknotes issued by the Government of
the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Each pair of stamp
sheetlet and banknote is printed with the same prefix and serial
number. The selling price is HK$300 each.
5. Handback Service
During 30 January to 3 February 2004, handback service will
be provided at all post offices to official and privately made covers
bearing the indication of the event and a local address. A cachet
will be available throughout the Expo period. In addition to the
availability of special postmarks for the Tourism Sheetlet Series
No. 3-6 and Hong Kong Attractions, special daily postmark will also
be introduced for each respective day of the Expo.

The cachet, special postmarks and special daily postmarks will
be available at the Expo venue and all post offices. The GPO-1 postmark
and the "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial postmark will also
be available for handback service at the Expo venue and 39 philatelic
offices during the Expo period.
At the same time, the public hall of the Hongkong Post Philatelic
Bureau on 1/F., Trade Square, 681 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon will
open during the Expo period for date-stamping covers with the "Philatelic
Bureau" pictorial postmark, the "GPO-1" postmark,
the special postmark, the special daily postmark and cachet.
6. Temporary Post Office
A Temporary Post Office will be set up inside the Expo venue. Services
to be provided include acceptance of Speedpost, Local Courierpost,
regular mail, parcel and registered mail posting. A new office
date-stamp will be introduced and handback service will be available
at the Temporary Post Office counters only. The opening hours is
the same as the opening hours of the Expo.

7. Display of products
The stamp sheetlets and the presentation packs will be displayed
at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan
Post Office and Sha Tin Central Post Office from 9 January 2004.
Official First Day Covers at HK$1 each for Tourism Series No. 3
- 6 and the souvenir cover of the Flip-flop Stamp Sheetlet at HK$1
and that of the Hong Kong Attractions at HK$2 each will be put on
sale at all post offices on the same day. Advance orders for servicing
self-provided souvenir cover will be accepted at all post offices
from 9 to 15 January 2004. The Souvenir Cover on the Issue
of My Stamp will be available for sale on 26 January 2004
at all philatelic offices.
