2004 Olympic Games Stamp Sheetlet

A stamp sheetlet to commemorate the 2004 Olympic Games will be issued on 13 August 2004 (Friday), the day of opening of the Olympic Games. The sheetlet embedded with two HK$5 denomination stamps illustrates a runner from bygone times and a modern-day sprinter in action. This is the fourth stamp issue of Hongkong Post to commemorate the Olympic Games. The previous issues were in 1992, 1996 and 2000.

Selling of “Prestige Souvenir Cover to commemorate Hong Kong’s participation in the 2004 Olympic Games” issued by the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong

A gold-foiled prestige souvenir cover will be issued by the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong (SF&OCHK). The selling price is HK$10 each. It will be put on sale at 39 philatelic offices starting from 20 July 2004. This souvenir cover, pre-affixed with a stamp sheetlet of 2004 Olympic Games will also be available at 39 philatelic offices from 13 August to 20 September 2004 while stock lasts. The selling price is HK$22.50 and the sales restriction of this product is 5 covers per queuing customer. The pre-affixed covers will be cancelled by the pictorial postmark of the respective philatelic office upon selling to customers.

The stamps will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office and Sha Tin Central Post Office from 23 July 2004. Official First Day Cover at HK$1 each will be put on sale at all post offices on the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided souvenir covers will be accepted at all post offices from 23 to 29 July 2004.

Hand-back datestamping service will be provided at all post offices on 13 August 2004 for official and privately-made covers bearing the first day of issue indication and a local address. A special postmark will also be introduced and available for hand-back service at all post offices. The “GPO-1” postmark, “Philatelic Bureau” pictorial postmark and the philatelic office pictorial postmarks will also be available for hand-back datestamping service at 39 philatelic offices on that day.

In addition, the public hall of the Hongkong Post Philatelic Bureau on 1/F., Trade Square, 681 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon, will also open on 13 August 2004 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for datestamping covers with the “Philatelic Bureau” pictorial postmark, the “GPO-1” postmark as well as special postmark on that day.
