Mint stamps
Fungi are neither plants nor animals, but are of use to us in diverse
ways. Just as plants and animals vary in appearance, fungi exist
in many different sizes, shapes and colours. From the plain brown
of the straw mushroom to the vivid violet of the Marasmius, Hong
Kong's fungal species come in myriad textures and have a variety
of uses ranging from food to medicinal purposes.
Hongkong Post will issue a set of four special stamps and a new
$5 stamp sheetlet on this topic on 23 November 2004 (Tuesday). The
colourful stamps offer a stylised representation of some of the
better-known fungi found in Hong Kong.

The stamps will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha
Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office and Sha Tin Central Post
Office from 2 November 2004. Official First Day Cover at
HK$1 each will be put on sale at all post offices on the same day.
Advance orders for servicing self-provided souvenir covers will
be accepted at all post offices from 2 to 8 November 2004.
Hand-back datestamping service will be provided at all post offices
on 23 November 2004 for official and privately-made covers
bearing the first day of issue indication and a local address. A
special postmark will also be introduced and available for hand-back
service at all post offices. The "GPO-1" postmark, "Philatelic
Bureau" pictorial postmark and the philatelic office pictorial
postmarks will also be available for hand-back datestamping service
at 39 philatelic offices on that day.
In addition, the public hall of the Hongkong Post Philatelic Bureau
on 1/F., Trade Square, 681 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon, will also
open on 23 November 2004 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for
datestamping covers with the "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial
postmark, the "GPO-1" postmark as well as special postmark
on that day.
