Children Stamps - Andersen's Fairy Tales

Mint Stamps
Reading of fairy tales forms an important part of a child's development.
Those well-known fairy tales characters can also be heroes on stamps
other than storybooks.
A set of four units of Children Stamps on Andersen's Fairy Tales
will be issued on 22 March 2005 (Tuesday). This year marks
the 200th anniversary of the birth of Hans Christian Andersen and,
as a tribute to his contribution to children's literature, Hongkong
Post is releasing a set of Children Stamps entitled "Andersen's
Fairy Tales", featuring four popular stories from the Andersen's
collection. It will be Hongkong Post's third set of Children Stamps.
The popular Andersen's fairy tales are taking a new form to appear
on stamps. An east meets west approach -- presenting the western
stories with the Chinese paper-cutting technique, takes you to the
wonderful world of Andersen's Fairy Tales! The titles of the four
stories and the stamp denominations are: The Ugly Duckling ($1.40),
The Little Mermaid ($2.40), The Little Match Girl ($3) and The Emperor's
New Clothes ($5).
The "Story Packs Collection", enclosing a set of four
stamp sheetlets, each depicting one story, is also a perfect collection
and gift for the Children's Day.
The stamps are designed by Mr. Michael FUNG and printed in lithography
by Joh. Enschedé B.V., the Netherlands. The stamp design
blends a Western theme together with Chinese traditional paper-cutting
created by Ms. LU Xue, president of the Chinese Arts Papercutting
Association, in a unique reflection of Hong Kong's rich multicultural
mosaic. Ms. LU is world renowned for her work, and her 'Jiulongbi'
masterpiece has been collected by the Chinese government and displayed
in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Her Hans Christian Andersen
Series consists of 112 images and has been collected by the Hans
Christian Andersen Museum in Denmark.
