Special Stamp Issue - "The 600th Anniversary of Zheng He's Maritime Expeditions"

To mark the 600th anniversary of Zheng He's first voyage, Hongkong Post, China Post and Macao Post will each issue a set of three commemorative stamps and a stamp sheetlet on 28 June 2005 (Tuesday). The stamps are sold in mini-pane. The mini-pane issued by China Post is embedded with nine stamps while those of Hongkong Post and Macao Post contain six stamps each. A Souvenir Pack containing the 3 mini-panes and 3 stamp sheetlets from each postal administration will also be issued. This is the fifth stamp issue jointly issued by Hongkong Post, China Post and Macao Post.

The three stamps (HK$1.40 each) issued by Hongkong Post present a Likeness of Zheng He; Exploration, Trade and Diplomacy; and Seamanship and the Science of Navigation. The stamp sheetlet (HK$10) features Zheng He's mighty fleet.

The mini-pane and stamp sheetlet are designed by Mr. Carl CHENG and printed in lithography by Beijing Stamp Printing Factory.

Remarks: The above philatelic products have been included in the 2005 Local Standing Order Service.

The stamps will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office and Sha Tin Central Post Office from 7 June 2005. Official First Day Covers at HK$1 each will be put on sale at all post offices on the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided souvenir covers will be accepted at 39 philatelic offices from 7 to 13 June 2005.

Hand-back datestamping service will be provided at all post offices on 28 June 2005 for official and privately-made covers, bearing the first day of issue indication and a local address. A special postmark will also be introduced and available for hand-back service at all post offices. In addition, the "GPO-1" postmark, the "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial postmark and the philatelic office pictorial postmark will be available for hand-back datestamping service at 39 philatelic offices on that day.

Also on 28 June 2005, the public hall of the Hongkong Post Philatelic Bureau on 1/F., Trade Square, 681 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon, will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for datestamping covers with the "Philatelic Bureau" pictorial postmark, the "GPO-1" postmark and the special postmark.
