Postal Gallery in the General Post Office Features New Exhibits
A fascinating new series of exhibits will be displayed in the Postal
Gallery on the Ground Floor of the General Post Office from May
through August 2005. The exhibition features photos and descriptions
of Hong Kong goldfish and will tie-in with the "Hong Kong Goldfish
II" new stamp issue on 12 May 2005.
The goldfish has long been a symbol of abundance and luck for Chinese
people, and Hongkong Post issued the first set of "Hong Kong
Goldfish" special stamps back in 1993. This second set of stamps
and the stamp sheetlet illustrate some of the most impressive varieties
of goldfish in Hong Kong. The exhibition will not only showcase
the "Hong Kong Goldfish II" special stamps and associated
philatelic products, it will also feature the running sheets of
this special stamp issue together with a message from the stamp
designer.
Ocean Park has been particularly helpful in providing interesting
and instructive text for this exhibition, and in arranging for the
loan of arts and crafts that depict goldfish in various forms. Of
special interest to collectors, goldfish stamps issued by other
postal administrations such as Japan and China will also be on display.
To add further interest and variety for those visiting the exhibition,
a set of intriguing and informative official souvenir covers on
opening and reprovisioning of post offices will be shown as well.
