Postal Gallery in the General Post Office Features New Exhibits

A fascinating new series of exhibits will be displayed in the Postal Gallery on the Ground Floor of the General Post Office from 15 August 2005 through January 2006. As a preview to the "Mainland Scenery Series No. 4 - The Qiantang Bore" new stamp issue on 16 September 2005, the exhibition features stamps and descriptions of various attractions in the mainland.

Across the vast expanse of China, there are many spectacular and memorable sights. To introduce natural wonders and monuments in China, Hongkong Post issued the first Mainland Scenery Series on 7 September 2002, featuring the "Hukou Waterfall". Following a favourable response, we featured more sites of historical and cultural significance in the stamps, e.g. The Master-of-Nets Garden, The Chen Clan Academy, Potala Palace and Jiuzhaigou Valley.

This exhibition will not only showcase the special stamps, associated philatelic products and running sheets of the "Mainland Scenery" Series No. 1 to 4, plus "World Heritage in China", it will also feature the initial designs together with a message from the stamp designer of "The Qiantang Bore".

The China National Postage Stamp Museum has been particularly helpful in providing a collection of stamps on mainland scenery for this exhibition. The stamp album consists of 350 pages and will be displayed starting from 8 September 2005.

To add further interest and variety for those visiting the exhibition, a set of intriguing and informative official souvenir covers on opening and reprovisioning of post offices will be shown as well.
