Special Stamp Issue - "2007 Centenary of World Scouting"
A set of special stamps on "2007 Centenary of World Scouting" will be issued on 1 March 2007 (Thursday).
This set of special stamps is designed by Mr. Clement YICK and printed in lithography by Joh. Enschedé B.V., the Netherlands.
Founded by Lord Baden-Powell of Britain in 1907, Scouting is now a worldwide youth movement with over 28 million members from 216 countries and regions. To mark the centenary of World Scouting in 2007, a set of commemorative stamps is issued by Hongkong Post.
The set of four stamps gives a sketch of the history and achievements of Scouting as well as a glimpse of Scout activities. The number in the centre of each stamp is hot-foiled with silver to mark the milestones in Scouting: the 100th Anniversary of World Scouting ($1.40); the inception of Hong Kong Scouting in 1911 ($2.40); setting a world record in knotting in 2000 ($3); and 100,000 Scouts in Hong Kong ($5). The four stamps share a light grey background and individually feature a portrait of Lord Baden-Powell, the emblem of the Scout Association of Hong Kong, a Scout knot and Scouts on parade. The integral parts of Scouting - a campfire, compass, rucksack and tent - are illustrated in colour and reflect the wide variety of Scout activities.
