Commemorative Stamp Issues - "The 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region" and "China - Hong Kong Joint Issue on the 10th Anniversary of the Reunification of Hong Kong with China"

A set of commemorative stamps on "The 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region" will be issued on 1 July 2007 (Sunday). On the same day, a joint stamp issue with China Post on "The 10th Anniversary of the Reunification of Hong Kong with China" will also be released.

To celebrate this special occasion and to exemplify the successful implementation of "One Country, Two Systems", Hongkong Post will also produce a Limited Edition Prestige Stamp Album. The album will contain two stamp panes. One pane will include "A Symphony of Lights" hologram stamp sheetlet and a serviced First Day Cover affixed with a set of six stamps of "The 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the HKSAR". The other will include a mini-pane and a serviced First Day Cover affixed with a HK$1.40 stamp and a RMB1.20 stamp of "The 10th Anniversary of the Reunification of Hong Kong with China". Information on how to order the Limited Edition Album will be announced in early July.

To make these special stamp issues even more meaningful, Hongkong Post will set aside a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the stamp products issued on 1 July 2007 as a charitable donation.

I. The 10th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

Hongkong Post now issues this set of creative stamps together with a charming hologram sheetlet to represent the spirit of Hong Kong - a city of vibrancy and diversity.

Mint Stamps

Mint Stamps

This set of commemorative stamps presents a rainbow effect. These stamps capture momentous aspects of the development and achievements of the HKSAR over the past decade, and present the spectacular wonders of Hong Kong as a City of Life.

  • $1.40 - Full of life and zest, 10 children silhouetted against a spectacular sunrise symbolise the aspiration and energy of our younger generation in pursuit of their bright future.
  • $1.80 - A banner outside the Hong Kong Heritage Museum shows "Hand in Hand", a sculpture made to commemorate the reunification of Hong Kong with China using 10 fingers as a metaphor for our close ties with the motherland.
  • $2.40 - Vehicles arranged in the shape of the number 10 move along the Tsing Ma Bridge, the world's longest span suspension bridge for both carriageway and railway. The bridge is among our proudest achievements in infrastructure development.
  • $2.50 - A flock of 10 birds fly over the Hong Kong Wetland Park. This world-class conservation, education and tourism facility is purposely built to demonstrate the diversity of our wetland ecosystem.
  • $3.00 - Two IFC, the tallest building in Hong Kong, forms a perfect 10 with the full moon. The obelisk-shaped skyscraper is an iconic landmark overlooking Victoria Harbour and a symbol of Hong Kong's status as an international financial centre.
  • $5.00 - "A Symphony of Lights" show staged in Victoria Harbour features a combination fireworks display and rooftop pyrotechnics display. A "10" is created against a magnificent backdrop of city lights.

Stamp Sheetlet

The stamp sheetlet presents "A Symphony of Lights" in a hologram to produce a flickering effect. The exciting display that lights up the sky over Victoria Harbour was named the world's "Largest Permanent Light and Sound Show" by Guinness World Records in 2005.

II. China - Hong Kong Joint Issue on the 10th Anniversary of the Reunification of Hong Kong with China

To mark the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's reunification with China on 1 July 2007, China Post and Hongkong Post jointly issue a commemorative stamp. With joyous celebration as its theme, the stamp reflects the jubilation shared by all across our country.

The first joint stamp issue of the two postal administrations uses the same design, adopting different impressions and face value to signify the successful implementation of "One Country, Two Systems" in Hong Kong. The close ties between China and Hong Kong are compared to the national flag and the regional flag of Hong Kong SAR waving side by side in the background. At the centre is "Forever Blooming Bauhinia", a symbol of continued prosperity. The large and impressive sculpture was presented to Hong Kong SAR as a gift from the Central Government to mark the reunification in 1997. With the doves flying above, the glittering Bauhinia looks even more attractive, conjuring up a picture of peace and harmony.

Over the first decade since the reunification, Hong Kong has seen remarkable development on all fronts, thriving with the same vigour and glamour embodied in the golden Bauhinia.
