| Lunar New Year: Year of the Ox |
Year of the Ox: a time of stability, harmony and balance. The issue will be the first release in a new 12-year Lunar New Year series. According to Chinese philosophy, everyone and everything are subject to the influence of the five elements: water, metal, earth, wood, and fire. The elements rotate every year and each is associated with specific character traits: stability, industry and practicality in the case of earth element. 2009 is the year of Earth Ox. The domestic stamp features an illustration of an Ox before a mountainous landscape. The landscape and tan earth tones in the background speak again to this year's element, earth. Plum blossoms - popular subjects in Chinese art and a common feature in Lunar New Year decor - are peppered throughout the background of the stamp. These flowers are indigenous to China and the country's national flower. Blooming in the early spring snow, they symbolize life, rebirth and adversity overcome. |

| Lunar Year of the Ox |
The conceptual design of the second issue of the third series of Chinese Zodiac philatelic products, the stamp issue "Lunar Year of the Ox" is continuing to express the "Five Elements" of "Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth", and adopted the "Heavenly Stems" calculation method to figure out the nature of the "Five Elements". This year, the ox's nature from the "Five Elements" is "Earth Ox", so it becomes the main character of the five stamps. The "Earth Ox" stamp is applied with emboss printing technique to highlight the teapot image of Lunar animal while the hot foil stamping with holographic and gold are used respectively on the stamp border, the face values and the characters. |
