| Corrugated Landscapes |
Flexible, lightweight, cheap and reusable, corrugated iron is a familiar material in the Australian landscape. It features in the sheds, fences and water tanks that populate their country and suburban environments.
Corrugated iron - which despite its name is now always made of steel - is metal crimped so as to greatly increase its strength. A product of industrial and imperial Britain, where it was invented and patented in 1829, it was exported to Australia from 1850 on. As a result of the demands of the gold rush, by 1880 Australia had become Britain's biggest customer.
Corrugated iron arrived there as a building material, as roofing for verandahs and in the form of portable shops, sheds and churches. Vast numbers of prefabricated dwellings were erected to house colonial settlers, gold miners and other workers. Buildings needed to be constructed quickly, and the flexible, lightweight, cheap corrugated iron was well-suited to this purpose.
Today corrugated iron pervades their cities; it is no longer just a symbol of the rush. Available in a variety of profiles and multicoloured coatings, it is a popular material for roofing, water storage, warehouses and factories.

| Roadside Attractions |
Nothing beats a Canadian road trip. From the rocky splendours of the west, through spectacular stretches of alpine meadows, towards the sweeping ocean vistas of the east-it seems that, no matter which way we steer the wheel, there's something to see. But it's not all natural scenery; the landscape abounds with quirky landmarks that capture the spirit of small-town Canada and never fail to get tourists talking. This July, Canada Post will issue the first set in a three-year stamp series showcasing Canada's famous roadside attractions. |

| Sauna |
Sauna atmosphere! "When I chose the pictures for the Sauna booklet, I aimed for Finnishness and the authentic sauna atmosphere," says the designer of the booklet, Päivi Vainionpää. "The first stamp shows a moment before a sauna. The sun is going down, there's a fresh birch whisk in the bucket on the jetty, and soft towels await the bathers," as she describes the scene. The second stamp shows the bathers actually in the sauna, and the third stamp depicts an idyllic shoreline sauna in its natural setting. The fourth and fifth stamps show sauna atmosphere inside and out: a sauna whisk bathes in the sunlight on a log wall, and inside the sauna the sunshine lights up the bathing place through a window.
The Sauna stamps include microscopic scent capsules. When the stamps are rubbed, the capsules burst and spread a pleasing aroma of birch leaves. |

| A Tiki Tour of New Zealand |
In other countries they might call it the 'roundabout way' to get somewhere. Or the 'scenic route'. But in New Zealand it's a 'Tiki tour', and it's the only way to go. It involves getting from A to B via L&P®.
Your classic Tiki tour is all about enjoying the journey as much as the destination, and checking out as many 'choice' national icons as you can along the way. |

| Jazz in Portugal |
Those who were so fortunate as to attend the first jazz festival in Portugal, will find difficult to forget the extraordinary event that got together, on the same stage, renowned names in Jazz such as Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, Dexter Gordon and Phil Woods, among others. It was with this generous offer that the first Cascais Jazz festival was launched, on the 20 November 1971 at the former Sports Pavilion (Pavilhão dos Desportos) in Cascais, drawing an audience of close to ten thousand people. |

| The Flavours of Lusophony |
This set of stamps aims to illustrate some of the most interesting examples of the mutual influence of Portuguese gastronomy and the gastronomy of other continents, in times as far back as of the Discoveries. The selection of dishes - naturally limited by the number of stamps to be issued - was based on the distinguished opinion of David Lopes Ramos, one of the most respected Portuguese gastronomic critics. The preparation of the dishes was entrusted to chef Aimé Barroyer who interpreted, in the light of the most modern, contemporary culinary art, in which field he is one of the most renowned world experts, dishes as old and emblematic as the peoples characterized here through their "mouth" and through the excellent photographic creation of Mário Cerdeira. |

| Post Boxes |
The earliest known surviving posting slot was placed in the wall of Wakefield Post Office in 1809. Britain's first roadside pillar boxes appeared in the early 1850s but in more remote and less populated areas, a cheaper and more practical alternative was needed, resulting in the development of smaller post boxes. Initially, they were installed in walls, buildings or brick pillars: later designs were also attached to lamp posts.
To celebrate this anniversary Royal Mail is releasing a Miniature Sheet of four stamps featuring iconic wall mounted post boxes. |

| Sculptures |
The art of sculpture has always proved to be a challenge in the arts arena, with sculptors needing ample space to work in and to store finished pieces. However, despite the challenges, Ms Han Sai Por, Mr Tay Chee Toh, Mr Teo Eng Seng, Mr Wee Beng Chong , the late Mr Anthony Poon, the late Brother McNally, and the late Dr Ng Eng Teng persevere in the art of sculpture and the art form is still very much alive and flourishing in Singapore today. They, along with many others, have demonstrated that they have the potential to create monumental pieces that are in tune with the technological age.
This year in their National Day stamp issue on Sculptures, they feature the following works, "We're Happy. Are You Happy?" by Mr Teo Eng Seng, "Crimson Eagle" by the late Mr Anthony Poon, "Art Trees" by Ms Han Sai Por, "Standing Figure" by Mr Wee Beng Chong, "Wealth" by the late Dr Ng Eng Teng, "Signature" by the late Brother McNally and "Nude 2" by Mr Tay Chee Toh. |
