Christmas: The Nativity Scene Last Christmas, Canada Post celebrated the Nativity with a commemorative stamp featuring a sculpture of the infant Jesus created by renowned Italian-Canadian sculptor Antonio Caruso. This year, Caruso's phenomenal Nativity sculptures will appear on three new stamps. The international stamp will feature the Shepherd; the domestic stamp will feature the Madonna and Child; and the U.S. stamp will feature the Magi. The figures are arranged on the souvenir sheet as they appear in the crèche. Last year's Nativity stamp also appears on the souvenir sheet and first day cover, enhancing collectibility by bringing all four together as a set.

Christmas: Tree Thousands of years ago, when the well-being of entire cultures depended on the fruitfulness of the land, trees and other plant life were considered sacred. Evergreens were said to possess exceptional vitality and power, as they continue to survive and flourish when deprived of warmth and sunlight. It was a common pagan custom to use such greenery as décor during winter solstice celebrations, as these trees, wreaths and garlands were reminders of better times to come - the promise of new life in spring.
