How to Handle Used Stamps?

Other than buying stamps from post offices or stamp shops, you may acquire stamps from letters or parcels you received, but you need to soak and remove it from the envelope. Here are a few steps that you would find fun with:-

  1. Cut around the stamp carefully, make sure to leave some paper around the stamp to avoid damaging the stamp.

  2. Place the stamp with the design face up in a bowl of warm water for about five minutes to remove the gum from the back of the stamp. A self-adhesive stamp takes about 20 minutes to soak off.

  3. Avoid soaking together with other stamps because the ink from a coloured envelope may run and spoil the stamp.

  4. After the stamp has come off, carefully put the wet stamp onto a clean tea towel with your fingers. Leave the stamp until it is completely dry, then use stamp tweezers to place it in your album.
