"Gold and Silver Stamp Sheetlet on Lunar New Year Animals – Ox / Tiger"
Date of Issue: 6 February 2010
Gold and silver are precious metals cherished as symbols of wealth and honour in many cultures since ancient times. Gold and silver stamp products have always been popular and they make perfect and valuable gifts to relatives and friends in the Lunar New Year season.
The tenth issue in the series presents the Ox and the Tiger. The two stamps, in a denomination of $50 each, are embossed and hot-foiled – the Ox with genuine 24-carat gold and 99.9% pure silver, and the Tiger with genuine 22-carat gold and 99.9% pure silver. A certificate of authenticity is included, making the sheetlet a unique keepsake.
The Chinese Lunar Calendar marks the years in a twelve-year cycle, with each year of the cycle named after an animal. It is believed that people born in the Year of the Ox are reliable and conscientious, while those in the Year of the Tiger are independent and brave.
As in previous issues in the series, a gradation of light and shade accentuates the image details of the Ox and the Tiger standing proud against their brick red and olive green backgrounds, producing a striking three-dimensional effect.
Stamp products include stamp sheetlet, presentation pack and serviced souvenir cover (available at the philatelic offices on the issue day only).
